The reluctant druggie

14 Apr

I’m proud of the fact that I’ve never been hospitalized and rarely get sick.  But when I do get sick, it gets kind of ugly.  So after three weeks with a bad cough that doesn’t seem to have any indication of leaving, I finally go see the company doctor for some professional advise.  Hey, don’t get me wrong, I take some medicine for my cough. I just don’t want to take like four or five of them all at the same time. I don’t think it’s healthy at all. All those drugs into your system’s gonna wreak havoc on your kidney.

After my visit to the doctor, lo and behold! I come out of the clinic with four types of drugs:  I knew it… An anti-allergy medicine to be taken at bedtime for seven days, an antibiotic after breakfast for seven days, a cough suppressant 3x a day for five days, and a pain killer to be taken every eight hours for three days or until symptoms ease.  Plus, for my itchy throat, an anti-bacterial mouthwash I have to gargle for one full minute 3x a day – something I still have to buy.  The doctor said I could also take a lozenge in between in case I can’t take my throat’s itchiness.  This, I already have in my bag.

The stiff neck I thought I’ve had for two weeks turns out to be an inflamed lymph node.  She also suggested having an x-ray done after three days if things don’t improve plus having my thyroid checked since she noticed my neck seemed swollen.  Duh. Try coughing for three weeks.  I’m sure your neck will expand too.

I thought I could lick this thing on my own but finally waved the white flag. I already wasted two long weekends I could have otherwise enjoyed out with friends or family had I been healthy.  I want to be able to get back to tasting food and moving around normally without sounding like a barking dog (cough, cough) so I guess I’ll have to be a druggie for now.  Sorry kidney.
